For me, the issue is that it was stated as if it was an absolute. Did the director call to get clarification on the issue? Were the students allowed to call and make that request? I suspect that if that had been the case, it would have been mentioned. Instead we get the line, "well, sometimes there are legal repercussions for changing a word" and then the matter is dropped on nothing more than the strength of that assumption. That's where I have a problem. The matter should never stop there. I believe these fabricated brick walls where people even refuse to consider an alternative action are what allow racism to endure in the US.
