I am in the same position as you. You're doing the right thing. I've cut off communication with a lot of family members and even posted the letter I send them. Perhaps, ten, twenty, thirty years down the road these people will recognize they're alone and hated. But there's just nothing we can do in the meantime. If you try to walk with them, you'll just end up in the miserable place they end up.
