I appreciate the effort you make editing my articles. I try to send in clean copy, but sometimes a few dumb errors slip through. I also feel the need to have another set of eyes on my work to make sure I'm not misinterpreting an issue in a way that's embarrassing (I've got a lot to learn). I think you're right that it is a form of stolen labor to allow your work to be edited and then remove it from a publication. I think you're right, though, the best thing is to not waste your time on articles that need a lot of work. Cheers!
