I got used to mockery when I was growing up. I thought it would turn to praise when I began to achieve. Imagine my surprise when I started to do well and was met with silence... like they simply didn't want to admit I existed. I haven't talked to most of the people in my family for decades. Thank you for sharing your experience, it's similar to mine and it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one!
