I see what you’re saying. He should have used the term “racists” instead of “parents” but I agree with McAuliffe’s comment. However, the right, as they always do, settled on a completely radical interpretation of the comment and started one of their hysteria campaigns. Saying parents shouldn’t determine school content is definitely something that needs to be discussed. It is not the same as saying parents don’t have a say in education. Parents still have the option to homeschool. Determining what’s taught in public schools cannot be equated with denying a parent’s right to have a say in how their child is educated.

Your comment is interesting though. I’m not sure it’s possible to say anything without the right figuring out a way to repurpose it for some unhinged political attack.
