I sincerely hope you and your family stay safe. It's so frustrating to have to hear accounts from parents who are afraid for the safety of their children.

Six months ago my community lost a 11 year old girl who was murdered not far from my home. I've written on this a few times. When the school sent the announcement she was missing I was among those that went out to look for her. Suffice it to say, this issue is too real for my liking.

I've received more hostile messages as my platform as grown (though I'm not at your level by a long shot). Your comment confirms my fear that this is just the way it's going to be, which is disheartening... but I guess I have to get used to it.

After working hard for so many years in the pursuit of greater visibility, it's distressing to think that this is something that comes with the territory.

I guess I wrote this article as a bit of a pep talk for myself. It's tempting to consider quitting, but I've come to the realization that I'm more scared of living in a world where people are too afraid to voice their opinions.

Thanks for the suggestion of reading the threatening messages in a silly voice. It made me laugh. I'll do that the next time I get one.

Best to your family. Be careful out there!
