I think that part of the problem is that there's a very large community of evil white people lying to the rest of the white community and telling them that racism doesn't exist. It's always easier to listen to the jerk who is telling you that you did nothing wrong than it is to listen to the responsible person who says there are things you have to be held accountable for. Somehow we have to convey the message that accountability leads to a better society for everyone, but it's a hard sell.
