I think the problem is wealth inequality. I think the small group at the top has gained so much of the total share of wealth that our whole system is going to topple over soon. So, those rich people are looking for a group to blame, and naturally they fixate on small groups of people who don’t fit into the “traditional” mold of the nuclear family. This allows the passive moderates to become fixated on that group while they ignore the true people who are toppling society (the oppressive rich).
