I think you have to be mindful of your personal safety before you attempt to reach out and help others. Yes, you're absolutely right that it's a privilege. I'm mindful in this and also in my activism to oppose racism or hostility towards immigrants. I often struggle with how I can make a positive impact but also not inadvertently make things worse.
