I went to a talk by a Penguin acquisitions editor. He was sure to tell us that they were looking for writers from diverse backgrounds, but I couldn't help notice that their acquisitions editor was still a 40 something year old white male. The push for inclusion from these big companies is pretty meaningless if they don't establish people from diverse backgrounds as gatekeepers.
