It could be a cultural thing, I wonder to what extent a European crowd would have recognized your tactics. I used to be a big fan of the Tour de France. I'd watch a race and cheer at things and other people had no idea what was going on. It's delightful when you suspect the tactics that might be at play, and it builds tension as the athlete approaches the spot where you think s/he might "make a move." It doesn't help that commentary on Olympic events is so awful. I often wonder why even the former athletes who provide commentary rarely explain what's going on (maybe they're instructed not to). Ultimately, ending up on the podium is what determines who has the guts :).
