It was stunning to me when I first went down there. There simply weren't bar fights like you find in US college towns. It's still that way as far as I can see. Perhaps it's due, in part, to the fact that kids aren't kicked out of the house to fend for themselves when they're 18. The US is cruel in many ways. I think most Americans would be stunned by the degree of humanity they can find if they travel abroad. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!
