It's a good impulse to try and see things from other people's point of view, but it can also be dangerous. My dad used to beat me up when I was a child. In his mind it was "for my own good." He thought he was doing it because of his "fundamental urge to protect children" (he had to "teach" me how to behave, etc.). But the reality is that his actions were only abusive and harmful. The same is true with conservatives. It doesn't matter if they think their course of action is meant to help people. The things they're proposing are harmful and cause enormous damange. All we have to do is look at the statistics. The fact that conservatives denounce the evidence that proves they're on a dangerous path means you have an obligation to convince them to stop from doing harmful things.
