It's been years since I've read this, but I should revisit it again. I remember that my conclusion was to think of the book as a discussion on the conflict between the intellect, the spirit, and the body as represented by the three brothers. There is a lot of contemplation on the fundamental nature of what it means to be human in The Brothers Karamazov. I also felt that The Idiot felt like an early version of this book.
