It's like a lot of things. They don't dictate it directly, but you can see the bias in what goes unsaid. An example I like to use is the recent media coverage of the latest supreme court case over whether religious groups can deny service to same-sex couples. The reports I've seen never use the words "discriminate" and instead say "traditional values." They interview the business owners, but never interview the LGBTQ couples that face discrimination. This is the kind of ever-present but subtle bias that pushes the Overton window to the right. It's the same as how teachers can get fired for teaching the actual letters of secession from the Civil War (they'll be accused of CRT). My work gets censored on other platforms all the time.
