It’s not a matter of “nobody can do anything right.” That’s not an accurate simplification.
It’s a matter of understanding that the trust is broken. Even what appeared to be good faith gestures have too often been proven to be cleverly concealed attacks.
Therefore, people of good faith can’t be ego driven where they want to be “appreciated” for their efforts. It’s not about them, it’s about achieving justice. There can be no celebration until everyone can celebrate.
It is possible to go through a day and not encounter violence in the US, but if you’re not white, you’re likely encountering micro aggressions. In the worst cases, those micro aggressions escalate into violence.
