My purpose in writing this was to emphasize that it's important to pay attention when people from other cultures indicate they believe certain behaviors are disrespectful.

America is a melting pot, there aren't universal American traditions that can be applied to everyone that lives here. I think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's name started getting shortened in right wing media because they're offended by ethnic sounding names. It's similar to the right wing insistence on mispronouncing Kamala. They're offended by names that they don't consider to be traditionally American.
