It's so easy to slip into the same old arguments on the issue of racism. It's kind of stunning to me how much perspective you can achieve simply by reframing the issue. I discovered the cartoon that's the feature image for this after the article was done. I thought it was astounding that the idea of connecting racism to alcohol (the whiskey barrel) turned up in a cartoon from 1862. Thanks for the comment!
