I've been thinking about this comment for a couple hours. I've certainly indulged the idea that human beings are awful. That's a valid hypothesis to consider, but I don't think we've generated enough evidence to regard it as law. The problem with assuming human beings are evil is that it can be used as an argument for absolute authoritarianism. I think human beings are vulnerable to being pushed into doing evil things, but I'm not sure that it is our essential nature. But I could be wrong. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
