Martin Luther King warned us about the passive moderates who refused to stand up for what is right. I think the thing nagging at you is the programmed docility all Americans are ingrained with which makes an oppressive system possible. When W said, "you're with us or against us" he was being vague (which is typical of conservative discourse). But when you highlight a specific act of evil, there's no manipulation.
