Once I saw you highlighted that phrase I thought my language wasn't very clear. I, of course, agree with you, but I encounter such resistance when I try to talk about these issues with other writers. They just won't even engage the idea.

In my experience, it's dangerous when people are too committed to assumptions based on "how they think it must be."

It's refreshing to have somebody confirm some of the things I've suspected. I think the worst part about all this is that talented writers are crushed when their manuscripts are rejected. They quit writing and society is robbed of their work.

For the last few years, I've taken the strategy of just not worrying about it. I've been writing these books for my kids, and I'll continue to do so until they stop being interested. At least that way, the manuscripts will exist. I have published with a couple other small presses, but I remain on the lookout for an opportunity that really works for me.
