One of the best parts about small press and independent publishing is that it helps reduce the power of the gatekeepers that have traditionally silenced minority voices. Although big three publishers claim they want to give more of a platform to these writers, they still funnel all new submissions through the same traditional filter. The writing community needs to develop more engagement with independently published works. Big three publishers are essentially Marvel movies, independent writers are the auteurs.
