One of the first people who commented on this said he always wondered how they knew he was gay and that it was a relief to learn they just called everyone gay. Comments like that show why it's important to write things like this.

The more I look back on it, the more irritated I am that we were actively discouraged from studying things like mathematics. I always did well in my studies, but it would have been nice to be encouraged.

Fortunately, my kids are enjoying their education so I guess that makes it okay.
