Thank you for sharing that. There are so many people waging a war on education who attack people who take pride in reading. Just yesterday my daughter said somebody called her a nerd because she read for fun. She proudly admitted that she loves to read. I was very shy growing up and I gained a lot of confidence through reading. I'm glad you overcame your stuttering issue. Getting teased constantly is no fun and I know what that's like too. You should gather up the poems you wrote for your son and present them to them (assuming you haven't already). The things we read in our youth stay in our souls throughout our lives.
