Thank you for sharing that. Your comment made me remember the book "Speaker for the Dead" by Orson Scott Card. Overall, the book isn't that great, but there's a nice idea in it about how we should adopt the practice of speaking the truth about people. I wonder the extent to which our authoritarian culture forces us to overlook or "forget" the way powerful people abused us. Even in death, we aren't allowed to voice our objections. That's truly bizarre when you think about it, and I suspect it's largely responsible for why these abusive dynamics endure. Thanks again for your thoughtful words!
