Thanks for that very thoughtful comment. You're exactly right. The belief that you "have" to be an evil bully to be financially successful is how men who exhibit toxic masculinity justify themselves. They're able to sleep at night cheating people because they fundamentally believe there is no other way to exist.

In the film, there's a scene where the main character, frustrated by a moment of tenderness, has to go out and beat his horse. I've encountered this kind of thing in real life. There are all these broken men who don't understand that they can just be kind. When confronted by kindness, they become confused and lash out with violence. It goes back to the school yard where it was considered normal to throw rocks and pull the hair of the girl you liked.

At some point, American has to wake up and recognize this is a sickness. Why does it make American men react with violence when somebody is nice to them? This is a form of deeply rooted psychological damage. Boys raised in this environment shouldn't be allowed to have launch codes for nuclear weapons.
