Thanks for your fair response to this article. It wasn't my intention to insult the military and I recognize it can be helpful for certain people.

I wrote this because I've been getting a lot of comments on my articles that have to deal with school shootings where people say things like "Every young man should be required to spend two years in the military."

It drives me nuts that this is the only solution people can think of. I feel our society has to dramatically change what it offers to young people, and dialing back on the military fixation would be a good start.
