That's a great point. I think it's because it takes work to learn something, and people in rural areas are so used to be told they're "great" that their ego can't take it when they recognize they don't understand. Therefore, they demonize advanced knowledge rather than put in the effort to learn. Great thought though, I have to write more on this! Thanks!
