That's a very good response. You are absolutely correct that this situation is far more complicated than I have addressed in my relatively short article. But I think the angle that I take in my article is left intentionally absent from the larger discussion, and it must be included. If we are going to say "perhaps his relationship with Hemings was a great romance," then we should postulate the extreme in the other direction. My purpose was to simply make this part of the discussion.
