That's an interesting observation. My impression is that they don't want to learn. You see that in the anti-intellectualism of the US as a whole. They have a small set of things that they believe because "they've always done it that way" and "that's good enough for them" and anything else they regard with suspicion. There were two or three other students who managed to escape that awful place, but a lot of them are still in that town to this day. Thanks for the comment!
