That's such a great comment. I've been thinking the same thing. I've been continuing to process this article since I wrote it and it occurs to me that the issue was the complete lack of oversight. The guy screamed at us every day and nobody ever did anything. It was a weird situation because we were in this small school due to a shortage of space at the regular facilities for 4th grade (we had to take an additional bus ride... most of our day was spent on the bus). One of the teachers served as an "on site" principal, but he didn't do anything. I think Mr. Narwhal had the kind of personality where he had to test authority. Perhaps after he threw the kid down the stairs even he realized he'd gone too far, but still nothing was done. Some people can't handle living in a place where there are no boundaries.
