That's such an uplifting anecdote, thanks for sharing. Also, you demonstrate a really good approach. One other commentor said the word "lies" that I suggested might be too aggressive. I was struggling with that comment until I read yours. Yes, in your situation, a more courteous explanation worked. I, however, keep getting caught up in these malicious lies that lead to violence and harassment. So, I think multiple approaches are warranted (depending on what's being said).
