That's unfortunate about Maynard. A lot of people take the time to leave hostile comments even though they really don't know anything about a situation (don't I know that...).
I wonder how much of this was a result of the success of Catcher, or how much was inherent to the man. Obviously after the book became such a phenomenon, he entered a new world with different rules. Our society turns a blind eye to powerful men who are child predators.
I wrote an article about how I wanted to be a successful writer in a better society. It seems to me that if your work doesn't appeal to the masses, you must be onto something.
