That’s very true! This idea of the particular way 80s films missed the mark on girl “nerds” is super interesting to me! I saw another movie recently that was clearly from a male perspective and it was absolutely absurd. The scene dealt with an indifferent mother who was observing her daughter struggle with an allergic reaction. It was laughably bad.

I wonder how much of this is regional too. In a rural setting, girls are pressured to behave a certain way. I’ve never liked the “dumb” performance. In grade school, I wasn’t the type of guy girls would try to impress by pretending to be dumb, and I’m glad for that.
