There are also some who are maliciously misinterpreting my text. All I'm saying is that it's hurtful for people to brag about how they don't write for money. That doesn't mean I censor what I read because of that declaration. I'm also not being critical of people who can't make a living writing (almost nobody can). I just want people to be honest about the fact that if somebody offered them money for their work, they'd take it. The deliberate misunderstanding that leads to hostility is something that I've encountered in my political writing, and I'm not sure what it means that it's turning up in the writing community. I'm concerned by it honestly.
