These debates always seem to skip over who has to endure horrific violence. You mention that in the section I highlighted and I applaud you for it. The tactic of shifting attention away from people who are being physically attacked and murdered is commonplace in our society. Decent people have an obligation to keep the focus on stopping all acts of violence first. Once that has been achieved, we can have debates with the "temperature turned down."
