This is a sobering article. Thank you for writing it. My wife is an immigrant from Peru and my daughter is fluent in Spanish. Naturally, she's in a basic Spanish class because our society refuses to teach foreign languages. Last spring, a boy spit in her face in Spanish class--I assume because he was irritated that my daughter could speak the language. My assumption was that this was a racially related attack since "build the wall" continues to be chanted from all corners. The school district refused to consider it as such. It's frustrating how racial insensitivity is not just tolerated, it's encouraged by our school districts. I feel there are obstacles in place to ensure the majority of teachers are white, and that's also part of the problem (my wife is a teacher, and she speaks on this often). Thanks so much for your words, they're important.
