Today there might be an argument that the distribution mechanism is so controlled that the public is only allowed to chose between various forms of propaganda. It always bothered me that we didn't discuss distribution mechanisms when I was in college. Who funded these stories? Who had the resources to preserve these books? Was it really "love" that made them care for these books, or was it something more nefarious? Thanks for the thoughtful comment!
