Yeah, I've had that experience too. When I wrote an article about how Trump supporters were harassing my wife and kids for speaking Spanish in public, people wrote to tell me it didn't happen. That's a really bizarre response when you think about it. These are the same people who suggest that children who are murdered in mass shootings "never existed." I guess this is just cognitive dissonance at an extreme level.
