Yes, excellent comment. I believe that many of our laws have been conceived to hurt women and protect men, which is horrible. All this is in the context of a society that denies women reproductive healthcare, so there's that too.

I'm glad you brought up the fact that some people go into that profession voluntarily. I think there's a lot of people who assume that's not the case and it's good to have an honest discussion of the situation.

In many ways, it's impossible to have fair discussions on anything in our society. People flip out and bring in their moralizing or their religion. I feel I've become more aware of some of my own unconscious biases through writing this article and reading the responses.

The first thing to stop is the trafficking and exploitation as you stated. But there is also clearly a human element that is missing from our society. I'll have to think more on this. Thanks.
