Yes, that was absolutely my perspective when I moved to Peru. People in the US are so fear conditioned to think the US is better, that they can't imagine other places in the world actually have advantages. That's why when you claim that women are treated badly in the US, you get a stupefied look ("well, where is it better?"). I think once we start a narrative that manages to break through that conditioning, we'll be on our way to a more productive discussion. But all of this is a work in progress, and perspectives like yours give me a lot of valuable information. Thanks!
