You did the right thing. Did you also report the account? I find it's a bit tougher to report accounts on the phone. The most important thing is to not get scammed. I'd feel terrible if somebody used my name and image to scam one of my readers. I suppose we should all periodically do a Medium search for our own names and report any violators. Best to you!
