You did the right thing. Man... what a story though, and what a great kid! My daughter had a teacher that gave her trouble too and we didn't even know it was happening until halfway through the year. My wife went in and talked to the principal, but we should have insisted she switched classes. Too often stuff like this slips through the cracks.
