You were far more courteous than the other guy so I've been giving serious consideration to your objections. But the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that this is a legitimate issue.
I'm aware that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez uses the abbreviation as her twitter handle. I addressed that in the first article. I'm sure that she has bigger things to worry about. However, the fact that she hasn't objected is not in itself a proof that there is nothing amiss. If I steal $50 and the person I take it from doesn't object, I've still done something wrong.
Essentially, my issue is the fact that the media reassigned Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's name because her name isn't "white enough." External forces made the decision substitute an abbreviation which is easier for white people to handle. She's the only one in her workplace that has been singled out like this, so that in itself should be a red flag.
The problem is that if Ms. Ocasio-Cortez requested to be addressed by her full name, I'm sure folks like Tucker Carlson would go off on an enraged tirade just like he did when he was asked to pronounce "Kamala" correctly.
Addressing a person by their full name is more respectful than using just the initials, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is just as entitled to that respect as anyone else. Also, it's just not appropriate for the media to substitute initials whenever they feel like it because they determine a name is too difficult to spell or pronounce.
