You're right, few things are absolutes. Mainly, for this article, I wanted to place the focus on people living in poverty who are hurt by the kind of "humblebragging" of "Oh, I don't write for money." In a lot of the comments, people keep swinging it back to some version of, "But I should be able to say whatever I want." But they disregard the plight of the oppressed. I'd also contend that everybody writes for money. I've never heard of anyone turning cash away, or using the cash they make from writing to help out other writers. I'm often troubled by the level of elitism in writing, and rich people never like to talk about how much wealth and privilege they have. I think "I don't write for money" is rooted int his worldview. In any case, thank you for your courteous response. I'm not offended when people disagree with me, as long as they do it in a way that's insightful and productive like your comment is.
